SI Club Köln-Römerturm: “An oak for the 20th anniversary of SI Club Gdansk”

2016 – Our Friendship-Link “Soroptimist International Club Gdansk” celebrated its twentieth anniversary from October 7th to 9th, 2016 with 120 soroptimists from Belgium, Great Britain, Israel, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Netherlands, Norway, Poland and Germany.

Our joint project

As a continuation of the joint project of 2015 “Let’s go green – working for a healthy environment”, three more trees were planted on the campus in front of the library of the University of Gdansk. The goal is to create a small “Soroptimistinnen-Park”, amongst other things to signal against the global warming of the earth and to give a sustainable ecological impulse.

Particularly noteworthy is that the “SI Club Kanazawa, Japan” – a joint friendship link with Soroptimist International Club Gdansk and Köln-Römerturm – donated the third tree: a ginko, worshiped for centuries especially in Asia because of its vitality and miraculous healing.

SI Club Köln-Römerturm chose an oak tree again. Oak trees are known to be more than two hundred years old. For our friendship with the Soroptimist International Club Gdansk, the oak should be a symbol of durability. In a lecture hall of the University, the most important projects of the last twenty years of the SI Club Gdansk were presented by the President Katarzyna Piszcako-Palasz and impressed the participants.

Supporting Program

The festivities were combined with a supporting program, which culminated on Saturday evening in Gdańsk’s Stary Manez Theater with a singing and comedy performance by a well-known Polish singer. Renata Trottmann (President Elect SIE, Switzerland) and Danuta Walesa (honorary member of SI Club Gdansk and wife of former Polish President Lech Walesa) . participate in the entire festivities.

Donated Projects

The donations and revenues collected during this evening event will benefit detained mothers with children up to four years old. In the evening it was also announced that a young medical student from Kenya will be supported by the SI Club Gdansk for another twelve months. A wonderful, very professionally planned and carried out in every detail, very successful anniversary celebration, which will consolidate sustainable our Friendship Link existing since 2009. SI Club Köln-Römerturm look forward to the next visit of Gdańsk women in Cologne.

Soroptimist International

Maria Klaas, the owner of Klaas consulting, is a volunteer in the worldwide organization of Soroptimist International. She has already held several posts on the board of her SI Club Köln-Römerturm and is also involved in Germany wide programs.

Soroptimists deal with questions of the legal, social and professional status of women and represent the position of women in public discussion. In summary: They are committed to the interests of women and their children – locally, regionally, nationally and globally.

Soroptimist International is a non-governmental organization (NGO) with general consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOS), and is represented with representatives of UN agencies in New York, Geneva, Vienna and Paris. Worldwide, 80,000 experienced women are volunteers. Soroptimist International has 6,500 members in Germany.

The global network provides SI members with a forum for the exchange of knowledge and experience, international encounters and lifelong friendships. see also soroptimist-entrepreneurs.org

Club Köln-Römerturm: „Eine Eiche zum 20-jährigen Jubiläum von SI First Club Danzig“

2016 – Unser Friendship-Link „SI Club First Danzig“ feierte mit 120 Soroptimistinnen aus den Ländern Belgien, Großbritannien, Israel, Italien, Japan, Liechtenstein, Niederlande, Norwegen, Polen und Deutschland vom 7. bis 9. Oktober 2016 sein zwanzigstes Club-Jubiläum.

Gemeinsames Projekt

Als Fortsetzung des gemeinsamen Projektes von 2015 „Let‘s go green – working for a healthy environment“ wurden anlässlich des Jubiläums drei weitere Bäume auf dem Campus vor der Bibliothek der Universität Danzig gepflanzt. Ziel ist, einen kleinen „Soroptimistinnen-Park“ entstehen zu lassen, um damit u.a. ein Zeichen gegen die globale Erwärmung der Erde zu setzen und einen nachhaltigen ökologischen Impuls zu geben.

Besonders hervorzuheben ist, dass der „SI Club Kanazawa, Japan“ – ein gemeinsamer Friendship-Link mit SI First Danzig und SI Köln-Römerturm – den dritten Baum spendete: einen Ginko, seit Jahrhunderten insbesondere im asiatischen Raum wegen seiner Lebenskraft und Wunderheilung verehrt.

SI Club Köln-Römerturm wählte als Baum wieder eine Eiche. Eichen sind dafür bekannt, dass sie mehr als zweihundert Jahre alt werden können. Für unsere Freundschaft mit dem SI Club First Danzig soll die Eiche damit ein Symbol der Dauerhaftigkeit sein.

In einem Hörsaal der Universität wurden die wichtigsten Projekte der letzten zwanzig Jahre des SI First Club Danzig von der Präsidentin Katarzyna Piszcako-Palasz vorgestellt und beeindruckten die Teilnehmerinnen.

Rahmenprogramm

Verbunden waren die Festlichkeiten mit einem Rahmenprogramm, das am Samstagabend im Danziger Stary Manez Theater mit einer Gesangs- und Comedy-Darbietung einer bekannten polnischen Sängerin den Höhepunkt fand. Renata Trottmann (Präsidentin Elect SIE, Schweiz) und Danuta Walesa (Ehrenmitglied im SI First Club Danzig und Ehefrau des ehemaligen polnischen Präsidenten Lech Walesa) nahmen u.a. an den gesamten Festlichkeiten teil.

Gesammelte Spenden für lokale Projekte

Die Spenden und Erlöse, die im Rahmen dieser Veranstaltung gesammelt wurden, kommen inhaftierten Müttern mit Kindern bis zu vier Jahren zugute. Am Abend wurde außerdem bekannt gegeben, dass eine junge Medizinstudentin aus Kenia für weitere zwölf Monate vom SI Club First Danzig unterstützt wird.

Eine wunderbare, bis ins Detail überaus professionell geplante und durchgeführte, sehr gelungene Jubiläumsfeier, die den seit 2009 bestehenden Friendship-Link nachhaltig festigen wird. Der SI Club Köln-Römerturm  freut sich auf den nächsten Besuch der Danzigerinnen in Köln.
